DOG PARK COMPLETION AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!

Scituate’s newest park will be opening this summer. Dogs and their humans will soon have a place to run free (off-leash) in a safe and friendly environment. The Town and the Friends of Scituate Dog Park had originally planned for a September completion date for the dog park, but Green Acres Landscape & Construction Co. Inc. is on track to complete the park by mid summer.

This exciting news means we need to fast-track our fundraising efforts for the park amenities. Friends of Scituate Dog Park (FOSDP) has launched a campaign to raise funds to furnish the park with water stations, waste receptacles, benches and a brick walkway. Community support is more important than ever. Lisa Huffman, President of FOSDP, said that plans were underway to fundraise all summer, but now the pressure is on to secure park amenities sooner. “We are all so excited to show off this park with everything in place. We never thought Green Acres would complete it so quickly!”

FOSDP is looking for donors interested in sponsoring park amenities that will come with custom name/business plaques. “This is a great way for local businesses to advertise and support the park,” says Huffman.

We all love our Scituate dogs and we’re thrilled to finally be bringing a safe, secure dog park to our community.  Let’s be the envy of all the South Shore towns and help make it an amazing park!  Donate today!

Stay tuned for more information on the Grand Opening this summer!

Scituate 5K9

The First Annual Scituate 5K9 took place on May 19th and was a huge success. Over 100 people signed up and nearly that many ended up running, walking or handcycling the race. What made this event so unique was that, in addition to the human entrants, there were about 30 dogs who ran the race with their two-legged companions!

The winners:

Kevin Lerardi, 16 years old, from Hingham was the first male to cross the finish line.

Jamie Lynn Patterson, 32 years old, from Scituate was the first female to finish.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who came out to support Friends of Scituate Dog Park.

Extra special thanks to:

Rachel Naclerio and her team of 10 volunteers for all of their hard work in securing local sponsors and organizing this successful event to benefit FOSDP.

AND

Dr. Siobhan Burke of Driftway Animal Hospital. The race wouldn’t have been possible without the generous Event Sponsorship you provided.

Together, this wonderful team raised a little over $4,000 and, after expenses, will be donating $2,885 to the Scituate Dog Park.  We are grateful beyond words and hope that a Second Annual Scituate 5K9 will be in the works for next year.
