Friends of Scituate Dog Park Completes Its Mission 🐾

In 2017, a group of dedicated Scituate residents formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Friends of Scituate Dog Park (FOSDP), to work collaboratively with the Town of Scituate to develop and build a public dog park just off the Driftway.

With generous grant funding from the Stanton Foundation, Community Preservation Committee (CPC), and donations raised through community support, FOSDP secured engineering plans, obtained construction bids, and completed the first phase of the park in 2019.

Because the Town owns the land, it has provided essential support throughout the project, including trash removal, parking lot plowing and pothole repair, and technical maintenance of park facilities. FOSDP has proudly served as the day-to-day steward of the park, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for all visitors by:

• Maintaining waste bag stations

• Installing and updating signage

• Organizing seasonal spring and fall clean-up efforts

• Replenishing wood chips

• Fundraising for future improvements

After several years of continued fundraising efforts and a significant contribution from a generous donor, the small dog park was completed in 2025, fulfilling a key goal of the original vision.

Over the past decade, more than $500,000 in public and private funding has helped bring this project to life. Friends of Scituate Dog Park has successfully fulfilled its mission to create a safe, secure, and welcoming place where dogs and their families can gather — a place where dogs can SCIT. STAY. PLAY.

Transition of Park Stewardship

With the successful completion of both park areas, FOSDP is now ready to transition responsibility for ongoing maintenance and operations fully to the Town of Scituate.

In the coming weeks and months, we will be circulating a petition for sigatures. With so many in Scituate and the surrounding communities who use and love the park, we are confident that we will have strong public support for the Town to continue maintaining and funding operations of the Scituate Dog Park so that this valuable community resource remains available for years to come.
